Hidden Power
The move Hidden Power is a very tricky move to make it work right. Hidden Power is a move whose type varies depending on stats of the Pokemon. To get the Hidden Power (or HP, not to be confused with Hit Points however.) just right usually takes awhile for inexperienced trainers.
Well lets begin at the basics. What exactly IS Hidden Power? Hidden Power, as said before is a move that varies upon the stats of the Pokemon. Although in battle the move looks the same, they are entirely different types. In the in game description, Hidden Power is marked as a normal move, has no definite power, and its description is, "The attack power varies among the Pokemon." Do not let the given type fool you, unless you train the Pokemon to have HP Normal, it is NOT a Normal type move.
IVs and Hidden Power
Now then, Hidden Powers vary among the stats, what stats? The IVs, (for more information of IVs please go here), can make a Fire type Pokemon have a Water type HP. Here is a chart from Serebii. All of the chart I give 100% credit to Serebii/Dragonair, and thank you for making this (even if I did reword it a little). It’s moreover written as an equation, and I hope you know the IVs of your Pokemon, or else this won’t make any sense.
HP (Hidden Power) Type= (T1+T2+T+T4+T5+T6) * 15/63. The Ts are variables.
Now lets say a Pokemon had these specific IVs:
HP=31
Attack=31
Defense=30
Speed=31
Special Attack=30
Special Defense=31
They are high numbers, but work with me here, so now lets use the order of operations to figure this thing out. (Remember kids, Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally.)
HP Type=(1+2+0+8+0+32) *15/63
HP Type=(43) *15/63
HP Type=645/63
HP Type=(approx.) 10
Hidden Power Types
Now that you found the number, here’s the chart to go with it:
And that is how you find your Hidden Power.
The Power of Hidden Power
What was that? You thought we were done? Ha ha think again, there is still one more equation needed (also from Serebii). This time we are finding out the actually power of the move, if you are fine with just knowing your Hidden Power type then you can stop reading, for those who want to know the power of the move, continue reading.
Well here we are, with some more variables, this time they are P, which represents power I suppose…
HP Power= (P1+P2+P3+P4+P5+P6) *40/63 + 30
Now for our values:
You’re probably wondering, what if it does not have a remainder of 2 or 3? I’m almost positive it means the variable is 0, but if you look at the original IVs of the Pokemon, way up at the beginning of the chart, you will see all the numbers divide to have a remainder of 3 if the IV was 31 and 2 if the IV was 30. Here is your equation:
HP Power=(1+2+4+8+16+32) *40/63 + 30
HP Power=63 * 40/63 +30
HP Power=2520/63 +30
HP Power=40+30
HP Power=70
So there. Your Hidden Power power is 70.
