A sequel to Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, known as Pokemon Platinum, is slated for Japanese release in fall 2008.
Basic Data
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl take place in the new, fairly sunny region of Sinnoh. The villainous team this time around is Team Galactic, seeking to use the power of the Pokemon Deities Dialga, lord of Time, and Palkia, lord of Space, to create a new Universe in which they rule.
Once again, you go around the region, training and catching Pokemon, defeating the eight Gym Leaders, and seeking the title of Pokemon Champion.
Changes from Generation III
This game has changed the way people play Pokemon all around the world. You do not need any experience with the older generations to play this game, so no need to worry! Also, it has so many extras, like the underground, contests, wifi, and many other features, that people will never get bored with this game!
This new region also introduces 107 brand new Pokemon to the mix, bringing the total number to 493 species. The starters of this region are Piplup, a water-type Penguin, Chimchar, a fire-type Chimpanzee, and Turtwig, a grass-type turtle.
There are various new moves and abilities to this game as well. Moves have now reached a change on whether they are classified as special or physical, now instead of depending on type, they depend on what the move does.
Also, this game brings back the times of day, like Day and Night, as well as a new item, the Poketch, a digital watch with immense applications, like a calculator and more.
Contests from Generation III are now called Super Contests, with new rounds, involving the presentation of your Pokemon and decorating them for appeal.
The Underground is also a new feature, it has local multiplayer support and is a place where you can play mini-games, make a secret base, and dig the walls for rare items, evolution stones, fossils, and more.
Pokemon Diamond and Pearl are also the first games to feature WiFi. Using WiFi, you use "friend codes" to battle and trade with other players. Also, it comes with "voice chat" so you can speak to your opponent during a heated battle. You can visit the GTS, or Global Trading Station, to trade your pokemon worldwide.
