Wi-Fi Battling Clauses

Clauses are basically set guidelines for something. In competitive play some tactics are viewed as cheap, overused, etc etc. I.E. somebody using a Kygore against a Charizard, or just using a fast Pokemon that has a sleep move on six different Pokemon.

So, players over the third and fourth generations of Pokemon games created 'clauses' to make the battles more fair and fun for everybody. Basically 'clauses' are no different then a "No Hitting Below the Belt" used in Boxing.

Please note, this is meant as a Guide to Clauses people batting over Wifi. This is by NO MEANS a rule guide to the website and you are in no way inclined to battle with them if you don't want to. This is only meant to answer any questions to player who are new to the metagame.

Clause Types

There are quite a few clauses and lots of people like to make up their own clauses as well to add a little spice in battle, for the person they fight. This guide only covers the Main Clauses that everybody should be aware of.

  • Uber Clause- Ubers are now recognized as legendary Pokemon with stats too overwhelming and unfair for regular play. Most battles ban ubers. Here are the ubers TB currently recognizes, some sites have different tier lists, but most agree with this one:

  • Arceus
    Darkrai
    Deoxys (All forms except Speed)
    Dialga
    Giratina
    Groudon
    Ho-oh
    Kyogre
    Latias (regardless of Soul Dew)
    Latios (Same as Latias)
    Lugia
    Manaphy
    Mew
    Mewtwo
    Palkia
    Rayquaza

  • Legendary Clause- You may use no legendary Pokemon in your party.

  • OHKO Clause - You and your opponent can not use moves that causes instant one-hit knockouts. Some examples would be sheer cold, fissure, and guillotine.

  • Species Clause - You cannot have two or more of the same Pokemon in your party.

  • Sleep Clause- You may only afflict one enemy pokemon with sleep at a time. You may sleep another only after the first wakes up or gets knocked out.

  • Evasion Clause- Don't use Double Team and Minimize. The game becomes dreadfully dull when every game is DT x6 followed by Baton Pass to a sweeper. DTing walls will never die either.

  • No Items Clause- Pokemon to be used in the battle are not allowed to use held items. This generally has the two people batting to go to a trade option first before the battle to have a quick check too see if a person put on an unnoticeable item.

  • Luck items Clause - You and your oppnent can not use Items that rely on luck to be activated. Some examples are focus band, brightpowder, and quick claw.

  • Item Clause- You cannot have two or more Pokemon on your party with the same item.

  • Legit Clause - None of the pokemon can have illegal movesets, 999 in all stats, 255 EVs in all stats, 31 IVs in all stats, or have been caught in places that they normally wouldn't have been caught at. An example of an illegal moveset would be would be a Magnezone with Flamethrower or Salamence with Ice Beam.

  • No Withdrawals Clause- With this rule, switching out your pokemon in the middle of a battle is not allowed. Moves like U-turn, baton pass, whirlwind and roar are allowed, however.
